About
With our Catalyst funding, My Best Friend plans to professionally record four original songs that we have been performing for years at shows around Grinnell College. After playing music together since first year, the three of us have developed a strong musical rapport, shown through our tight harmonies and distinct style. We want to properly document the work that we have put into developing our group over the years, and use a release of a My Best Friend EP to launch a series of performances across the Midwest. We have seen great success in Grinnell over the years, and plan to use the Catalyst funding to solidify our impression on Grinnell’s community and broaden the reach of our music to new spaces.
Team Member(s)

Maya (My) Llewellyn ’25 is a Fourth-Year Sociology Major with a Concentration in Environmental Studies originally from Chicago IL. Maya plays keys, guitar, and sings in My Best Friend. She grew up taking piano lessons at church. This gave her the tools she needed to make emo bedroom indie pop in high school. At Grinnell, Maya sings in Grinnell Singers, Con Brio A Cappella, and founded Songwriting Circle to collaborate with friends and further hone their own song crafting skills. She’s thrilled to keep making music with My Best Friend.

Ben (Best) Curran ’25 is a Fourth-Year Sociology Major from Bettendorf IA. He is the drummer and a vocalist in My Best Friend. Growing up, Ben demonstrated an interest in music, an interest which he cultivated by taking piano lessons, singing in his high school choir, and playing drums in his high school band. This interest in music quickly took off into a deep passion; flash forward to today at Grinnell, where Ben demonstrates his passion through the Grinnell Singers, Con Brio A Cappella, Grinnell’s Bluegrass Band, and of course, My Best Friend.

Frannie (Friend) Crego ’25 is a Fourth-Year German Studies Major from Minneapolis MN. Frannie plays guitar, bass, and sings in My Best Friend. Music was a big part of her childhood, and she grew up going to her dad’s rock shows and attending bluegrass camps with her friends. Outside of My Best Friend, she has sung with the jazz ensemble, performed at songwriter sessions, and started the Grinnell Bluegrass Band.
